Strapless Purse
So here's the purse album I was talking about earlier today. Chris made such a beautiful one for a class she's teaching, and because I so needed to come up with a quick gift for my SIL .. it just came together.

Oh, you can't possibly know how happy I am to see Friday finally arrive! What a week it's been and I'll be happy to just curl up and enjoy the weekend. Tomorrow we have plans to go car dealership hopping, in search for a car .. but I can do that no problem if I have my Tim Horton's coffee.
Today, even though I should be catching up on the cleaning I couldn't do this past week due to working abit, I plan on rushing through the worst or "must do" things and then sitting down to scrap my heart out. I just got some really scrummy paper that I MUST use. A friend from 123 made this adorable purse album that I want to see if I can scraplift.
Things seem to be settling down flu wise as well. Alissa's feeling better today, but not 100% yet. She still hasn't eaten anything .. this surprises me because she's an eater, I tell ya .. but then again she's keeping water down now, so that's got to be a good sign.

FYI
Chris Daughtry escaped the bottom three again this week. Katharine however, didn't. :( But she didn't go home! Lisa did. But I think Kellie should have, and I actually think she KNEW she deserved to be in the bottom three.
this is getting old .. REAL fast!
So I send Hailey off to school thinking we're all in the clear, and guess who ends up talking me out of bringing her to preschool? Yep .. my baby girl has come down with that bug too. Dave was working this morning and I had no one to fill in for me either, so with bucket in hand Alissa came with me to work. I care for kids ages 18mos to school age (4ish) while their Moms and younger siblings join in a special playgroup for a couple hours Thurs mornings. I probably infected these poor innocent children by bringing Alissa with, but what's a desperate Mom to do? She's being really lazy and resting, and at least she's drinking alot of water so she has something to buffer those nasty heaves. Cross your fingers she isn't up all night. Don't think I can handle another sleepless night this week. ACK!
On other news. I got my butt moving again this morning. For the first five minutes into the dvd, while I'm in a warm up walk, I kept thinking .. "I could just turn this off and go veg and nobody would be the wiser." Yes! Even into the walk I had those thoughts. Talk about lazy hey? I made it through the walk tho, and felt better afterwards. I just need to get past the initial spurt of energy I need to muster up that early in the morning, but I can honestly say, it makes for a much better day. Yes I'm tired earlier in the evening, but it's a good tired. Heck, I didn't even hear Dave come home at 10:30, crawl into bed beside me and proceed to watch a taped LOST. Nope .. I never woke up AT ALL! Actually, that's a tad scary now that I really think about it. Anyone could have broken in and I wouldn't have heard a thing. Yet had one of the girls woke and called, I'm sure I would have been on my feet before my eye lids opened. Funny how a Mom can function, don't you think?
So Cindy, *my sister in sweat ;) .. another day done .. how many to go? lol

flu, flu go away
And Hailey's got the stomach flu AGAIN! Grr, what's with this winter's bugs? We just all got better from a bout of junk last month, and again .. out of the blue it hits again. Her and I got next to no sleep at all, and poor Dave ended up snuggling in with Alissa in her queen bed so that Hailey could come to bed with me and I wouldn't have to be up helping her with each bout of vomit. As of 9am this morning, she's been able to keep down water and some gingerale, so I think she's on the mend. Whew! Maybe we all can get a good night's sleep, and she can go to school tomorrow just like she wanted to so as not to miss her swimming lessons. One can hope.

Holy heckin'! Someone bring the ibuprofen in a very large bottle because this girlie has got THE sorest muscles ever! Try doing the exercise dvd this morning, then walking the kidlets to school, then back again at 11:30 for Alissa, and again at 2pm (early cuz Alissa has a pre kindergarten reading class every Tuesday for the next 6 weeks) and home again. Oy Oy Oy is all I can say!
Thanks for the "pats on the back". That felt good and I surely needed them. Cindy, I think you've got a brilliant idea hatching, girlie! Checking in with someone on a daily basis would certainly help me stick to my program. Like I've said before .. I have NO willpower.

I got through my first morning of exercise before coffee and computer. Pat me on the back will ya? If you know anything about me and my willpower or lack there of, you'd know this is a huge feat for me. That pumped me up enough to deal with a morning full of running after little ones at work. Ahhh, but now my feet ache and I just want bedtime to come quickly so I can enjoy the evening and hog MY remote while watching the Apprentice. (the joys of hubby working the afternoon/evening shift) So if I get the girls into a bath now .. that relaxing evening will come even quicker. :) :)

I see the sun again! Could this be true? The weather man forecasted rain starting today for the next four days, but it looks like that front has moved back a day .. yippee!
So the girls are going with Uncle J and Auntie S to church and Sunday School, and this leaves DH and I some very deserved alone time! *grin*
Wait a sec .. don't you be thinking what I know you're thinking. Really all I want to do is go shopping sans kids. Hah!
Then when they come home .. we're hitting the pool for some water time. :)
Hailey's class just started swimming lessons through the school, so although she's had lessons last year, I'm interested to see what she learned and what level she's at and such. And she's super anxious to show off her special talents too.
So there ya have it. Our Sunday in a nutshell!
Oh .. an online friend of mine (thanks Krista! :)) shared this link with me. It's a webcam focused on a bald eagles nest here on one of the little Islands off the big Island we live. It's captured my attention, so check it out if you like.

last day
Today is the last day (other then weekends) that I'm going to sit my butt down and choose the computer over my exercising. I usually wake at 6am, come down and make coffee and browse blogs and my most favourite scrapbooking message board and catch up on emails until about 7, then race upstairs to wake up the little ones and run through the shower, get dressed and made up for the day, etc, etc. (I'm sure those that have kids know all that it takes to get THEM ready for the day and for school).
But I've been tossing around the idea of taking that hour to exercise in peace and quiet. I can have my coffee AFTER I've got the kidlets ready for school and hubby ready to shoo out the door. I'm sure I'll live an extra two hours without my coffee. So tomorrow starts this new routine. I know it can only be a positive outcome. Jump start my energy level for the day and all that good stuff. So please wish me luck. Luck that my will power will last and I won't go crawling to the computer after just one day of trying this.

I have another Alissa'ism to share.
Lately I've really noticed one particular word Alissa uses alot. I'm pretty sure she's said it like this all along, but both D and I have noticed it ALOT lately.
gunta = going to
It's the sweetest thing to hear it in it's many forms. Just today I heard it used like this.
"Mommy, I was gunta do that after I let Meesha (the cat) in." meaning she was going to shut the door after she let our cat in.
"I was gunta pick that one." expressed in a really whiney voice. This was said after I told the girls to pick out a book and Hailey picked the one Alissa apparently wanted.
I'm sure you get the picture now. So until it becomes a problem with some sort of speech delay or the like (can't see that happening), or when she's corrected at school, I shall quietly love every minute she runs words together and enjoy these precious last days (okay so it's really a few months) of age four.

NEW WORD: freak
I admit, I was rather surprised to hear this word escape my 6.5 yr olds lips, but then again she's been doing that alot lately. It must be a chapter in the book called Life. So to put it into context. We were walking home from school and a couple grade 3 girls were just ahead of us. We tend to walk within steps of them most days, along with other kids making their way home. I also know them because they were friends with our neighbour girl that has since moved away. Anyway, these girls decided to cross the four lane road without the assistance of the crosswalk/stop lights and when I saw them looking both ways, getting into the "dash as quickly as you can" stance I felt compelled to speak up. The listened only at that part of the road, but did it closer to the light. You'd understand why it's more then wrong if you saw the way the road rounds a corner and how they'd get hit by a car that wouldn't have a chance in hell should the light be green and the car racing through it. I took the time to express my feelings on the situation with Hailey since the opportunity was there. I explained, among other reasons, this is why I will walk her to school until she graduates (okay so I went a little overboard with THAT), and how dangerous it is not to use a cross walk. Her comment? "I wouldn't be a FreakHead like that". So although Websters Dictionary defines "Freak" as something totally different then what Hailey portrayed it to be in her comment, I think I got a clear picture of what she REALLY meant to call them. LOL!

Happy SPRING!
Yay, the day I live from January 1st on to see. I'm so not a winter person and love the warmer/dryer months and spring starts it all off for me.
So for some reason I feel inclined to do some baking this morning. I pulled out some blackberries from the freezer yesterday and they're totally thawed this morning. So much so that when I came down first thing this morning, I was welcomed to a puddle of blackberry juice on the kitchen counter. If you know anything about blackberries, you'll know they instantly stain anything they come in contact with. All I can say is thank god for oxi clean! I recently purchased an oxi clean enhanced fantastic and it's taken some major old stains out of my carpet, but it also pulled the juice stain from the counter too, with a couple applications.
So I think blackberry bars or crumble is in the future, and a fresh batch of bread. I want to be more like my younger sister and bake all the bread we (kids and dh) eat, but I'm not as dedicated to the oven like she is. (Love ya Kath ;))
So yesterday I promised some new scans of layouts I've recently created. So here goes ...

I'm off to walk to school and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Happy Spring to all my readers. :)

birthday, sun, solitude and scrapping
The latest about me!
Firstly .. happy belated birthday to my BIL, Dan. Happy 28th birthday Dan! Hope you had a great day!!
Yesterday was G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S and the girls and I took full advantage of it. A friend of mine came for the afternoon and we went for a walk around the marsh in behind our place. I captured pieces of spring, the girls frolicking in the warm sunshine and playing with the pigeons and ducks, and the gorgeous blue sky.
Then today the girls asked to go to Sunday School with their Aunt and Uncle, and because Dave had to work, that left me all to my lonesome. It's a rare thing, and I loved every minute of it. I got a couple more layouts done, add that to the ones I did yesterday morning and I have a tally of 5 completed this weekend. NICE!
I'll share when I have more time to upload pictures and scans.
Off to have a coffee with hubby!

almost through the week
Wow, what a week it's been. Mostly boring because although I'd have loved to put the girls into some extra spring break activities, it would have broke the bank, so we did our own stuff. Crafts, veging in pj's, alot of TV, and even more then alot of bickering, but we made it through! Now the weekend yet and we'll be homefree! Hailey's gone to a friend's for this afternoon, and Alissa's playing and watching TV while I scrapped a few cards.
Having to get a jumpstart on Mother's Day cards for the Cards For Soldiers gave me the inspiration to get my cards made for the Mom's I need to send to done early too. I have three, my mom, mil, and step mil, to make and they're done now. I'm going to keep making more with the same design because it's easy and fun, and then I'll work on some more of those other special days like birthdays and such. I know the Soldiers can never have to many!

spring is in the air
Oh yes, it's finally here! That warmer air upon my cheeks, the birds chirping and singing up a sweet song, the shoots I see on the trees, the smell of fresh vegetation growing. Yep, THIS is the very reason I live in southern BC. Early spring, with year long green vegetation. :D
Here's a little robin I came across yesterday while out for a walk with the girls. I had to zoom in about 25x, so it's a little blurry but you can still see him.
And I can't forget to post a little something from my budding photographer. See, this is why I think with some encouragement, she could really become great. She saw something unusual and wanted to capture it.

This song is so darn addicting! The girls and Dave have listened to it to many times to count since we first downloaded it and it's variations a month or so ago. Not only have we been listening to the song that's quite catchy and puts you in a silly/goofy mood when you listen to it, but also we see that silly frog all over the place now. Just the other day while walking through the mall, Dave pointed out that Bentley's was carrying it in the form of backpacks, lunch bags, luggage tags, purses and even stuffed with a button on his "hand" to play the song. Yep, this little guy is taking over the world.

Yay, the first game the Talons played and here's Dave going for the puck. Although the team lost the game 4-1, they gave it a great go and their fans were very pleased. It's to bad they had to play their first game against a team that had been playing in a league before, but it was a good challenge and at least the Talons weren't completely skunked.

why I love Saturdays
* the girls can sleep in and there's no fighting them to wakeup, get dressed, brush teeth and eat breaky all in the name of school
* Dave's home in the morning or sometimes the entire day
* we always have a nice big breaky
* I usually get to scrap at least one page or one small project
* we can stay in our jammies all day if we choose to
* or we can spend a day out doing things together as a family if Dave doesn't have to work
* I generally let the household chores go except for dishes and the "must do's"
* my most favourite of all is spending time as a family, and sharing the role of parent
Hmm .. that's about all I can think of at the moment.

kids say the darndest things
Hailey said something this evening that made me laugh out loud. The girls were brushing their teeth and they like to swish with Scope. Well, she's able to unwind the lid herself even with the childproof lock on it, and tonight had to express her thoughts to me.
Hailey: Why do they make this lid childproof, but tell you how to open it on the top of it
Me: *laugh* .... You know honey, you've got a REALLY good point there.
Hailey: I thought so too.

Almost that time again!
Thank goodness kids need more sleep then parents, because if I didn't get that little time in the evenings I'd simply die!
I've had a busy couple days. I took on a new job on Weds mornings for the next 8 weeks. I'm childminding for a group that's teaching people how to cook healthy for their families. Of course, we know it's difficult to cook AND have our children around, so I'm minding the kiddies while the Moms play chef for a couple hours. So this means Weds and Thurs mornings are booked with other kids besides my own. Am I crazy? Perhaps!
I'm going to have to play catchup around here tomorrow or I'll never be able to climb out of this dump called my home. It doesn't take long before the laundry, the floors, the bathrooms and everything else kinda builds up until you can't fathom the idea of tackling it. Around here, that's exactly two days and it's horrendous!
Last night after I read the girls a story, it was Hailey's turn to read to us. Wednesdays are library day at school so Hailey had a new book to read to us. The way Alissa leaned in intently, to look at the pictures .. it was priceless and I had to run for the camera. You'll see I listened intently to the story. ;)

can you hear that? That's the sound of NOTHING! Yep, that's right folks, both girls are in school and I have a wonderful couple hours to do with as I choose. Forget household chores, forget the phone, tv, or anything that means watching or interacting with people of any kind (cept for the good ole blog I guess). I'm off to do what *I* want! Yay! Wish I had a vehicle .. I'd go shopping! Probably a good thing that I don't, cuz the mood I'm in, I'm sure to buy things just to fill that self pity pit. :P

a day best forgotten
Ever have one of those days that no matter what you do, you fail? It started much like most every other day. I was up at 6am, had my time alone with a good strong cup of java, THEN hellion #1 and hellion #2 awoke. #1 doesn't always like to get her butt out of bed, and because she's in a loft bed, persuading her to come down can get pretty old. I wish I could just get in there with her and crowd her out of her warm nest, but that won't be happening for this acrophobia'd mom. Anyway, despite all the normal pleas which later turned into threats and consequences, I still couldn't get the hellions to listen. In comes daddy with all his charm and strong deep voice and he seems to get some action. I actually got through the whole breakfast bit, made lunches, then was the great chore of getting coats and shoes on. What's so darn hard about slipping on a pair of shoes that has NO velcro, NO zipper, NO shoelaces? Well #1 seemed to think she needed help this morning. UGH! So we walk her to school and alas, some relief from the fighting, bickering, disobedience.
Then I go the whole day feeding #2's hollow leg, and fighting the "I don't want that for supper" battle. Why oh WHY must she be so damn picky? Okay so then while checking on the sausages, I burn my hand on the oven element. Yep, that tops the entire day off and I'm going to crawl into bed tonight hoping with all my heart that I don't get faced with a day like today anytime soon. Please, dear god let these children of mine grow out of whatever crazy stage they currently are in, overnight.
If you got this far, you must be a Mom too. Bless your heart for reading about my agonizing day.

a little change, healthy again, an outing, AND some scrapbooking
Firstly .. you'll notice I did a little housekeeping. With the weather changing and our precious season of spring on it's way, I thought I'd change my blog colours to a more "cheery" colour. I'm working on some other things too, and because I don't know html all that well, it'll be trial and error for me, but so far the colour changing was easy peasy.
It seems we're all over that stomach flu now. Alissa's back to her quirky self again, and Dave and Hailey already had it, so I'm hoping whatever it was that I felt over a week ago was all that I'm going to get.
So in celebration of Dave's day off yesterday, we headed for a place just 30 mins north of us. There's some gorgeous stretches of beach that way, but when we drove up to park, we saw something going on up the cove abit. We HAD to see what it was, so drove out to where the fishing boats dock to get a better look. We still couldn't get to the commotion in the water (most likely alot of spawning herring), but had fun walking along the shore anyway. We made a surprising stumble upon a harbour seal which we thought was injured at first, but I think it was deathly scared of the two jabbering little people trying to get closer but were being pulled back by their smarter parents. Dave got close tho, and took some really cool pictures, then the seal pee'd and the excitement was brought to a short hault so the little prissy's could "ewww".
Check this little guy out. And more pictures here of our day. In the end, we went home with some really pretty pebbles and shells to tumble. :)
And of course, what would a weekend day be without a little scrapping? I managed 4 layouts in the couple hours that Dave snoozed and the girls warmed up from being out in that horrid wind. I'm usually such a slow scrapper, but when you leave the journaling off (which I don't like to do too often but sometimes the photos say it all), that cuts the time drastically and the layouts just start pumping out. the flu
It's taken nearly a week, but Alissa now has that yucky stomach bug. She woke me at 5am, asking for a bucket cuz her tummy hurt. Poor thing! Good thing she hadn't eaten much supper last night or I'm sure the scene would have been nastier then it already was. She seems to be doing okay right now, but hungry and not sure if she wants that toast I made her. I may have to run for some gingerale or pepto bismal later, but for now it's fluids, fluids and MORE fluids.
And other then caring for her, I'll be doing regular household related activities. The floor is looking grungy and needs a good mopping as does the carpet a good vacuuming. Oh and then there's always laundry! Tis the life of a SAHM. ;)

Oh P.S.

100 Day
Today is 100 day for most of our School District. This is what Hailey came home with today from their little celebration. They made this cool crown/hat, a book with what they'd like or dislike to have 100 of (ex: I'd like 100 ____, or If I had 100 dollars I'd buy____), and a necklace made of exactly 100 Froot Loops. As a class they also got to help Mrs H make a 100 Day cake. It's a super easy recipe using marshmallows (can you guess how many? lol), a cake mix and a can of cherry pie filling. It sounds really good so I may just make it and try it (teacher sent the recipe home). 
I did the 2 mile again today, and that's about all I could muster as far as energy was concerned. Pretty much everything else was caught up around here, so I spent this rainy day just vegging. It's a not so pleasant time of the month (TMI I know .. sorry) and you know how the first days feel like crap, mix in some rain and I'd like to just hybernate.
Time to go make some supper for us. Tonight it's stir fry, so I better get to it cuz we all know how long it takes to get raw vegies cooked to the perfect texture.

Strapless Purse
So here's the purse album I was talking about earlier today. Chris made such a beautiful one for a class she's teaching, and because I so needed to come up with a quick gift for my SIL .. it just came together.
Couldn't you just eat that paper up? This colour combo has got to be one of my most fave's right now because I seem to be so drawn to it.

Oh, you can't possibly know how happy I am to see Friday finally arrive! What a week it's been and I'll be happy to just curl up and enjoy the weekend. Tomorrow we have plans to go car dealership hopping, in search for a car .. but I can do that no problem if I have my Tim Horton's coffee.
Today, even though I should be catching up on the cleaning I couldn't do this past week due to working abit, I plan on rushing through the worst or "must do" things and then sitting down to scrap my heart out. I just got some really scrummy paper that I MUST use. A friend from 123 made this adorable purse album that I want to see if I can scraplift.

FYI
Chris Daughtry escaped the bottom three again this week. Katharine however, didn't. :( But she didn't go home! Lisa did. But I think Kellie should have, and I actually think she KNEW she deserved to be in the bottom three.
this is getting old .. REAL fast!
So I send Hailey off to school thinking we're all in the clear, and guess who ends up talking me out of bringing her to preschool? Yep .. my baby girl has come down with that bug too. Dave was working this morning and I had no one to fill in for me either, so with bucket in hand Alissa came with me to work. I care for kids ages 18mos to school age (4ish) while their Moms and younger siblings join in a special playgroup for a couple hours Thurs mornings. I probably infected these poor innocent children by bringing Alissa with, but what's a desperate Mom to do? She's being really lazy and resting, and at least she's drinking alot of water so she has something to buffer those nasty heaves. Cross your fingers she isn't up all night. Don't think I can handle another sleepless night this week. ACK!
On other news. I got my butt moving again this morning. For the first five minutes into the dvd, while I'm in a warm up walk, I kept thinking .. "I could just turn this off and go veg and nobody would be the wiser." Yes! Even into the walk I had those thoughts. Talk about lazy hey? I made it through the walk tho, and felt better afterwards. I just need to get past the initial spurt of energy I need to muster up that early in the morning, but I can honestly say, it makes for a much better day. Yes I'm tired earlier in the evening, but it's a good tired. Heck, I didn't even hear Dave come home at 10:30, crawl into bed beside me and proceed to watch a taped LOST. Nope .. I never woke up AT ALL! Actually, that's a tad scary now that I really think about it. Anyone could have broken in and I wouldn't have heard a thing. Yet had one of the girls woke and called, I'm sure I would have been on my feet before my eye lids opened. Funny how a Mom can function, don't you think?
So Cindy, *my sister in sweat ;) .. another day done .. how many to go? lol
*a little quip I adopted from Leslie Sansone

flu, flu go away
And Hailey's got the stomach flu AGAIN! Grr, what's with this winter's bugs? We just all got better from a bout of junk last month, and again .. out of the blue it hits again. Her and I got next to no sleep at all, and poor Dave ended up snuggling in with Alissa in her queen bed so that Hailey could come to bed with me and I wouldn't have to be up helping her with each bout of vomit. As of 9am this morning, she's been able to keep down water and some gingerale, so I think she's on the mend. Whew! Maybe we all can get a good night's sleep, and she can go to school tomorrow just like she wanted to so as not to miss her swimming lessons. One can hope.

Holy heckin'! Someone bring the ibuprofen in a very large bottle because this girlie has got THE sorest muscles ever! Try doing the exercise dvd this morning, then walking the kidlets to school, then back again at 11:30 for Alissa, and again at 2pm (early cuz Alissa has a pre kindergarten reading class every Tuesday for the next 6 weeks) and home again. Oy Oy Oy is all I can say!
Thanks for the "pats on the back". That felt good and I surely needed them. Cindy, I think you've got a brilliant idea hatching, girlie! Checking in with someone on a daily basis would certainly help me stick to my program. Like I've said before .. I have NO willpower.

I got through my first morning of exercise before coffee and computer. Pat me on the back will ya? If you know anything about me and my willpower or lack there of, you'd know this is a huge feat for me. That pumped me up enough to deal with a morning full of running after little ones at work. Ahhh, but now my feet ache and I just want bedtime to come quickly so I can enjoy the evening and hog MY remote while watching the Apprentice. (the joys of hubby working the afternoon/evening shift) So if I get the girls into a bath now .. that relaxing evening will come even quicker. :) :)

It reached 12 degrees, the sun was beating down and warming the earth, and we were out without jackets even. After working the morning away, Alissa and I came home for a little breather before having to pick Hailey up from school. I HAD to change from socks and runners into ahhhh yes .. SANDALS!
They're tacky, they're ugly, but they're mine and they're comfy. hah!

I see the sun again! Could this be true? The weather man forecasted rain starting today for the next four days, but it looks like that front has moved back a day .. yippee!
So the girls are going with Uncle J and Auntie S to church and Sunday School, and this leaves DH and I some very deserved alone time! *grin*
Wait a sec .. don't you be thinking what I know you're thinking. Really all I want to do is go shopping sans kids. Hah!
Then when they come home .. we're hitting the pool for some water time. :)
Hailey's class just started swimming lessons through the school, so although she's had lessons last year, I'm interested to see what she learned and what level she's at and such. And she's super anxious to show off her special talents too.
So there ya have it. Our Sunday in a nutshell!
Oh .. an online friend of mine (thanks Krista! :)) shared this link with me. It's a webcam focused on a bald eagles nest here on one of the little Islands off the big Island we live. It's captured my attention, so check it out if you like.

Today is the last day (other then weekends) that I'm going to sit my butt down and choose the computer over my exercising. I usually wake at 6am, come down and make coffee and browse blogs and my most favourite scrapbooking message board and catch up on emails until about 7, then race upstairs to wake up the little ones and run through the shower, get dressed and made up for the day, etc, etc. (I'm sure those that have kids know all that it takes to get THEM ready for the day and for school).
But I've been tossing around the idea of taking that hour to exercise in peace and quiet. I can have my coffee AFTER I've got the kidlets ready for school and hubby ready to shoo out the door. I'm sure I'll live an extra two hours without my coffee. So tomorrow starts this new routine. I know it can only be a positive outcome. Jump start my energy level for the day and all that good stuff. So please wish me luck. Luck that my will power will last and I won't go crawling to the computer after just one day of trying this.

I have another Alissa'ism to share.
Lately I've really noticed one particular word Alissa uses alot. I'm pretty sure she's said it like this all along, but both D and I have noticed it ALOT lately.
gunta = going to
It's the sweetest thing to hear it in it's many forms. Just today I heard it used like this.
"Mommy, I was gunta do that after I let Meesha (the cat) in." meaning she was going to shut the door after she let our cat in.
"I was gunta pick that one." expressed in a really whiney voice. This was said after I told the girls to pick out a book and Hailey picked the one Alissa apparently wanted.
I'm sure you get the picture now. So until it becomes a problem with some sort of speech delay or the like (can't see that happening), or when she's corrected at school, I shall quietly love every minute she runs words together and enjoy these precious last days (okay so it's really a few months) of age four.

NEW WORD: freak
I admit, I was rather surprised to hear this word escape my 6.5 yr olds lips, but then again she's been doing that alot lately. It must be a chapter in the book called Life. So to put it into context. We were walking home from school and a couple grade 3 girls were just ahead of us. We tend to walk within steps of them most days, along with other kids making their way home. I also know them because they were friends with our neighbour girl that has since moved away. Anyway, these girls decided to cross the four lane road without the assistance of the crosswalk/stop lights and when I saw them looking both ways, getting into the "dash as quickly as you can" stance I felt compelled to speak up. The listened only at that part of the road, but did it closer to the light. You'd understand why it's more then wrong if you saw the way the road rounds a corner and how they'd get hit by a car that wouldn't have a chance in hell should the light be green and the car racing through it. I took the time to express my feelings on the situation with Hailey since the opportunity was there. I explained, among other reasons, this is why I will walk her to school until she graduates (okay so I went a little overboard with THAT), and how dangerous it is not to use a cross walk. Her comment? "I wouldn't be a FreakHead like that". So although Websters Dictionary defines "Freak" as something totally different then what Hailey portrayed it to be in her comment, I think I got a clear picture of what she REALLY meant to call them. LOL!

Happy SPRING!
Yay, the day I live from January 1st on to see. I'm so not a winter person and love the warmer/dryer months and spring starts it all off for me.
So for some reason I feel inclined to do some baking this morning. I pulled out some blackberries from the freezer yesterday and they're totally thawed this morning. So much so that when I came down first thing this morning, I was welcomed to a puddle of blackberry juice on the kitchen counter. If you know anything about blackberries, you'll know they instantly stain anything they come in contact with. All I can say is thank god for oxi clean! I recently purchased an oxi clean enhanced fantastic and it's taken some major old stains out of my carpet, but it also pulled the juice stain from the counter too, with a couple applications.
So I think blackberry bars or crumble is in the future, and a fresh batch of bread. I want to be more like my younger sister and bake all the bread we (kids and dh) eat, but I'm not as dedicated to the oven like she is. (Love ya Kath ;))
So yesterday I promised some new scans of layouts I've recently created. So here goes ...
Well, looks like it's just one layout for now. Blogger is acting up on me and I can't get more pictures to load. :(
I'm off to walk to school and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Happy Spring to all my readers. :)

birthday, sun, solitude and scrapping
The latest about me!
Firstly .. happy belated birthday to my BIL, Dan. Happy 28th birthday Dan! Hope you had a great day!!
Yesterday was G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S and the girls and I took full advantage of it. A friend of mine came for the afternoon and we went for a walk around the marsh in behind our place. I captured pieces of spring, the girls frolicking in the warm sunshine and playing with the pigeons and ducks, and the gorgeous blue sky.
Then today the girls asked to go to Sunday School with their Aunt and Uncle, and because Dave had to work, that left me all to my lonesome. It's a rare thing, and I loved every minute of it. I got a couple more layouts done, add that to the ones I did yesterday morning and I have a tally of 5 completed this weekend. NICE!
I'll share when I have more time to upload pictures and scans.
Off to have a coffee with hubby!

almost through the week
Wow, what a week it's been. Mostly boring because although I'd have loved to put the girls into some extra spring break activities, it would have broke the bank, so we did our own stuff. Crafts, veging in pj's, alot of TV, and even more then alot of bickering, but we made it through! Now the weekend yet and we'll be homefree! Hailey's gone to a friend's for this afternoon, and Alissa's playing and watching TV while I scrapped a few cards.
Having to get a jumpstart on Mother's Day cards for the Cards For Soldiers gave me the inspiration to get my cards made for the Mom's I need to send to done early too. I have three, my mom, mil, and step mil, to make and they're done now. I'm going to keep making more with the same design because it's easy and fun, and then I'll work on some more of those other special days like birthdays and such. I know the Soldiers can never have to many!
Today turned out to be a sunny day, and tomorrow's supposed to be the same. I'll be taking the girls out for some fresh air and a walk around the marsh in behind our place. Maybe I can get some pics of the resident ducks or better yet, the fresh greenery.
Time to flip the sausages and fold another load of laundry, so my little www time is cut short. Happy Friday!

spring is in the air
Oh yes, it's finally here! That warmer air upon my cheeks, the birds chirping and singing up a sweet song, the shoots I see on the trees, the smell of fresh vegetation growing. Yep, THIS is the very reason I live in southern BC. Early spring, with year long green vegetation. :D
Here's a little robin I came across yesterday while out for a walk with the girls. I had to zoom in about 25x, so it's a little blurry but you can still see him.
And I can't forget to post a little something from my budding photographer. See, this is why I think with some encouragement, she could really become great. She saw something unusual and wanted to capture it.

*Just fastforward a little to get the song to play*
This song is so darn addicting! The girls and Dave have listened to it to many times to count since we first downloaded it and it's variations a month or so ago. Not only have we been listening to the song that's quite catchy and puts you in a silly/goofy mood when you listen to it, but also we see that silly frog all over the place now. Just the other day while walking through the mall, Dave pointed out that Bentley's was carrying it in the form of backpacks, lunch bags, luggage tags, purses and even stuffed with a button on his "hand" to play the song. Yep, this little guy is taking over the world.
a hockey we will go
Yay, the first game the Talons played and here's Dave going for the puck. Although the team lost the game 4-1, they gave it a great go and their fans were very pleased. It's to bad they had to play their first game against a team that had been playing in a league before, but it was a good challenge and at least the Talons weren't completely skunked. Top: Dave and Jason .. can you tell they're brothers?

why I love Saturdays
* the girls can sleep in and there's no fighting them to wakeup, get dressed, brush teeth and eat breaky all in the name of school
* Dave's home in the morning or sometimes the entire day
* we always have a nice big breaky
* I usually get to scrap at least one page or one small project
* we can stay in our jammies all day if we choose to
* or we can spend a day out doing things together as a family if Dave doesn't have to work
* I generally let the household chores go except for dishes and the "must do's"
* my most favourite of all is spending time as a family, and sharing the role of parent
Hmm .. that's about all I can think of at the moment.

kids say the darndest things
Hailey said something this evening that made me laugh out loud. The girls were brushing their teeth and they like to swish with Scope. Well, she's able to unwind the lid herself even with the childproof lock on it, and tonight had to express her thoughts to me.
Hailey: Why do they make this lid childproof, but tell you how to open it on the top of it
Me: *laugh* .... You know honey, you've got a REALLY good point there.
Hailey: I thought so too.

Almost that time again!
Thank goodness kids need more sleep then parents, because if I didn't get that little time in the evenings I'd simply die!
I've had a busy couple days. I took on a new job on Weds mornings for the next 8 weeks. I'm childminding for a group that's teaching people how to cook healthy for their families. Of course, we know it's difficult to cook AND have our children around, so I'm minding the kiddies while the Moms play chef for a couple hours. So this means Weds and Thurs mornings are booked with other kids besides my own. Am I crazy? Perhaps!
I'm going to have to play catchup around here tomorrow or I'll never be able to climb out of this dump called my home. It doesn't take long before the laundry, the floors, the bathrooms and everything else kinda builds up until you can't fathom the idea of tackling it. Around here, that's exactly two days and it's horrendous!
Last night after I read the girls a story, it was Hailey's turn to read to us. Wednesdays are library day at school so Hailey had a new book to read to us. The way Alissa leaned in intently, to look at the pictures .. it was priceless and I had to run for the camera. You'll see I listened intently to the story. ;)

can you hear that? That's the sound of NOTHING! Yep, that's right folks, both girls are in school and I have a wonderful couple hours to do with as I choose. Forget household chores, forget the phone, tv, or anything that means watching or interacting with people of any kind (cept for the good ole blog I guess). I'm off to do what *I* want! Yay! Wish I had a vehicle .. I'd go shopping! Probably a good thing that I don't, cuz the mood I'm in, I'm sure to buy things just to fill that self pity pit. :P

a day best forgotten
Ever have one of those days that no matter what you do, you fail? It started much like most every other day. I was up at 6am, had my time alone with a good strong cup of java, THEN hellion #1 and hellion #2 awoke. #1 doesn't always like to get her butt out of bed, and because she's in a loft bed, persuading her to come down can get pretty old. I wish I could just get in there with her and crowd her out of her warm nest, but that won't be happening for this acrophobia'd mom. Anyway, despite all the normal pleas which later turned into threats and consequences, I still couldn't get the hellions to listen. In comes daddy with all his charm and strong deep voice and he seems to get some action. I actually got through the whole breakfast bit, made lunches, then was the great chore of getting coats and shoes on. What's so darn hard about slipping on a pair of shoes that has NO velcro, NO zipper, NO shoelaces? Well #1 seemed to think she needed help this morning. UGH! So we walk her to school and alas, some relief from the fighting, bickering, disobedience.
Then I go the whole day feeding #2's hollow leg, and fighting the "I don't want that for supper" battle. Why oh WHY must she be so damn picky? Okay so then while checking on the sausages, I burn my hand on the oven element. Yep, that tops the entire day off and I'm going to crawl into bed tonight hoping with all my heart that I don't get faced with a day like today anytime soon. Please, dear god let these children of mine grow out of whatever crazy stage they currently are in, overnight.
If you got this far, you must be a Mom too. Bless your heart for reading about my agonizing day.

a little change, healthy again, an outing, AND some scrapbooking
Firstly .. you'll notice I did a little housekeeping. With the weather changing and our precious season of spring on it's way, I thought I'd change my blog colours to a more "cheery" colour. I'm working on some other things too, and because I don't know html all that well, it'll be trial and error for me, but so far the colour changing was easy peasy.
It seems we're all over that stomach flu now. Alissa's back to her quirky self again, and Dave and Hailey already had it, so I'm hoping whatever it was that I felt over a week ago was all that I'm going to get.
So in celebration of Dave's day off yesterday, we headed for a place just 30 mins north of us. There's some gorgeous stretches of beach that way, but when we drove up to park, we saw something going on up the cove abit. We HAD to see what it was, so drove out to where the fishing boats dock to get a better look. We still couldn't get to the commotion in the water (most likely alot of spawning herring), but had fun walking along the shore anyway. We made a surprising stumble upon a harbour seal which we thought was injured at first, but I think it was deathly scared of the two jabbering little people trying to get closer but were being pulled back by their smarter parents. Dave got close tho, and took some really cool pictures, then the seal pee'd and the excitement was brought to a short hault so the little prissy's could "ewww".
Check this little guy out. And more pictures here of our day. In the end, we went home with some really pretty pebbles and shells to tumble. :)
And of course, what would a weekend day be without a little scrapping? I managed 4 layouts in the couple hours that Dave snoozed and the girls warmed up from being out in that horrid wind. I'm usually such a slow scrapper, but when you leave the journaling off (which I don't like to do too often but sometimes the photos say it all), that cuts the time drastically and the layouts just start pumping out. the flu
It's taken nearly a week, but Alissa now has that yucky stomach bug. She woke me at 5am, asking for a bucket cuz her tummy hurt. Poor thing! Good thing she hadn't eaten much supper last night or I'm sure the scene would have been nastier then it already was. She seems to be doing okay right now, but hungry and not sure if she wants that toast I made her. I may have to run for some gingerale or pepto bismal later, but for now it's fluids, fluids and MORE fluids.
And other then caring for her, I'll be doing regular household related activities. The floor is looking grungy and needs a good mopping as does the carpet a good vacuuming. Oh and then there's always laundry! Tis the life of a SAHM. ;)

Oh P.S.
I almost forgot, but I want to give a big Happy Birthday shout out to my 'older' sister. :D Happy Birthday Michele! Cheers, and here's to many more! Enjoy your red velvet cake. *drool*
100 Day
Today is 100 day for most of our School District. This is what Hailey came home with today from their little celebration. They made this cool crown/hat, a book with what they'd like or dislike to have 100 of (ex: I'd like 100 ____, or If I had 100 dollars I'd buy____), and a necklace made of exactly 100 Froot Loops. As a class they also got to help Mrs H make a 100 Day cake. It's a super easy recipe using marshmallows (can you guess how many? lol), a cake mix and a can of cherry pie filling. It sounds really good so I may just make it and try it (teacher sent the recipe home).
I did the 2 mile again today, and that's about all I could muster as far as energy was concerned. Pretty much everything else was caught up around here, so I spent this rainy day just vegging. It's a not so pleasant time of the month (TMI I know .. sorry) and you know how the first days feel like crap, mix in some rain and I'd like to just hybernate.
Time to go make some supper for us. Tonight it's stir fry, so I better get to it cuz we all know how long it takes to get raw vegies cooked to the perfect texture.
