I mentioned last week how Alissa's name was in the school newsletter for having a perfect attendance record this school year. On Monday .. at the last assembly of the .. she (and the only other student to manage the same feat) was given a medal for this achievement. I'm extremely lucky to have had a friend that was able to attend AND had her camera along and took pictures for me since I couldn't be there. Please do not judge ME on Alissa's clothing. I have been trying to make that jacket disappear for awhile now. I don't even know where it came from but I hate it, and of course now have documentation of her in it. Oy!
Today was officially the first day for summer for the girls. I have to admit to being very sad I don't get the opportunity to spend the summer with the girls, hanging out at the water parks, beaches and parks like we have so many other years. Now that I'm working, I'll have to settle for filling our weekends we have together with many beach days and fun.
I'm thrilled and proud to say that my girls did amazingly well this last term. Hailey earned herself 4 A's and 5 B's which, if our school had it, would have put her on the honour roll. Alissa did superior with a book report and her teacher says she's above grade level with her reading and her artistic abilities make her stand out. Both girls have to work a little more on their times tables and some basic math, and of course we'll keep up with the reading by joining the summer reading program through the public library again and I think I'll try having them keep a journal, as that gives them the outlet to express themselves as well as keeps them learning to form proper sentences, continue with their spelling, etc etc.
I didn't take pictures of the girls on their last day of school, but that's okay .. there's plenty of time for pictures, pictures and more pictures. Here's to an excellent, albeit busy, summer!
Alissa was chosen as one of eight students from her school, to participate in an article for one of our local newspapers about school being out for summer vacation. I was interviewed with the columnist by way of phone and also asked for some photos of Alissa or our family doing some of her favourite summer activities. There are so many things we enjoy doing during the warmer months but the columnist loved the photos of the girls eating watermelon after just swimming in the river and picked that one to use. The online article doesn't show photos for some reason, so I'm glad I went ahead and purchased a couple of the real hard copy newspapers for our keepsake. It was rather strange seeing myself quoted in the article too, I have to say. :P
So I decided to make this a book year because that's all this girlie seems to do .. read! I got her a couple books in a series, and as you can see, she wasn't overly thrilled with them. She pulled one at a time out .. and her facial expressions got more and more explicit. But it didn't bother me because I knew the last book in the pile would get a totally different reaction. See? I totally knew!!! Hailey's completely and wholly submerged in anything Twilight. She's watched the two movies, read the four books about five times over and when she saw this book, she wanted it! It's about one of the unfamous young vampires in the Twilight series, but goes abit more in depth with her life. I made a mental note about how excited she got when she spotted in the store, and voila .. instant birthday gift. Eclipse (the fourth movie in the Twilight series) comes out June 30th and Hailey's been counting down to it .. for months! Going together to see it is what I promised, so go we will! Alissa has asked if she could come too, and I've buckled and let her watch the other movies and she's about half as hooked on it as Hailey is so I think we'll make this a mommy/daughterS date and go in celebration of both their birthdays. Hailey .. you were born a blonde baldie and grew into my beautiful blonde angel .. but because you chose to show your pretty face three weeks early, I knew you would be early at everything you did for the rest of your life. So far you've proven me right. You're a mature soul, but please don't forget to enjoy your childhood while you have it. Happy Birthday my sweet golden girlie! I hope your 11th year is wonderful! I love you to the moon and beyond!
I got sent home 45 mins early today because there were just to many of us cramped behind the counter. Everyone else was on for their afternoon shifts and I was the last left of the morning shift, so bubye I went. :( Anyway .. that combined with the fact I put dinner in the crock pot this morning, is giving me a chance to play Hailey's new board game with her. She recieved a Twilight game for her birthday, and I haven't had the time to play it with her .. today I cave. If you don't hear from me by tomorrow, come looking for me. I may have gone crazy. Seriously that's what all this twilight/new moon/eclipse shit is doing to me.
Hedley won Video of the Year award with "Perfect". I knew they would .. it's an amazing, well thought out video, AND it's Hedley. What can I say? In the running was Billy Talent .. Devil on my shoulder, Danny Fernandes .. Addicted, Nickelback .. I'd come for you, and Stereos .. Summer girl.
I've been seriously slacking in the new music department. I have some more downloading to do to catch myself up with all the latest and greatest as well as some not so popular stuff. This work business is getting in the way. :P
If yellow roses grow in heaven, Lord, pick a bunch for me. Place them in my DADDY'S arms & tell him they're from me. Tell him that I love & miss him, & when he turns to smile .. place a kiss upon his cheek & hold him for a while. Because remembering him is easy ~I do it everyday ~ There's still an ache within my heart that will never go away.
Dad, I wish you were here so I could tell you again how much you mean to me, how even tho you may have made mistakes, you still were a loving and amazing Dad, and you've left me with so many memories that I cherish so much these days. I love you Dad!!

I'm so fucking pissed off with myself right now. :( I transferred the girls birthday party photos over to the computer, double checked they were in fact in the file I put them in, then went ahead and deleted them off my camera. Then went to open them up and play with them, email some off to my sisters, blog some, etc .. and guess what? THEY. AREN'T. THERE!!!! How could they be there one minute and gone the next? So a party without photos. A whole turning another year for both girls, celebrating with their friends, and no photos to show for it. If you're as into photography as me, you can imagine how much this is killing me. I could kick myself. I'm so fucking disappointed.
My friend graduated today from the administrative assistance course she was taking through our university here and I was able to attend the ceremony because of having the day off work. I'm so proud of her and that she was able to achieve all this while still working full time and being a single Mom of two girlies. A part of me is slightly jealous, because I too was supposed to have finished up my MT course by this time, but things seem to take their own path and one day I'll have a certificate too!
I also wanted to share this rather morbid game Alissa was playing this morning. Ragdoll kinda freaks me out because it's so life like but she bends in ever which way. Take a look and mess around with it .. it'll make you either laugh or gasp.
I've changed the stream of things here on my blog to something that's much more vague, not so deep or heart felt .. keeping things light and fluffy so as not to bare my true soul. Today lets change that for just a brief moment shall we.
I've always been told that we are the only ones that can be responsible for our own happiness. How can you get what you want unless you ask. How can you be happy unless you line up the things in your life that make you happy. How can you love your life until you have the right people in it, the right balance, and handle each situation with grace and dignity. Situations arise that try to wreak havoc on that happiness, but it's how you handle it that makes all the difference. I can easily say I love my life because on the surface it's not so bad. I have a job, a roof over my head, a ways and means of making my children happy and taking care of them, a car, alot of the comforts that I like, people that care about me and show me that with their actions, people that I care about and try to show with my actions, my health, and countless other things. But when I take a deeper look at things, I can't honestly say I do love the place I'm in right now .. but a life is a project, and thus a work in progress. Changes can only be made one step at a time, and if there's no goals such as that, then how can one better themselves. One must always have goals they want to achieve. I am trying to face the trials, turn the downs right side up, love the people that mean the most to me, and keep forging forward.
I have the next two days off work, and tomorrow I plan on celebrating my friends graduation from the clerical program she's been enrolled in for the past two years .. attending her ceremony and then bbq dinner, and Saturday afternoon is both girls birthday party (a combined swimming party). Sunday I work.
One thing I've noticed as the weeks turn into months since my Dads passing, is that all the firsts are so very hard to get through. So far there hasn't been to many, and because I've lived in another part of the province then him for the past 14 years, I didn't get to celebrate to many of the holidays with him in person .. but I always made cards and made phonecalls. With Father's Day coming up, my heart's sad. I'm weepy and I'm masking my grief by keeping busy. If anything, keeping busy keeps the mind from analyzing or making matters worse by overthinking. Whatever works, right.
Miss Sassy Pants is NINE today!! She couldn't wait to open up her gifts from Hailey and I .. so we let her do so first thing this morning (after we were all ready for school/work and eaten breakfast). Its hard to believe that nine years ago I gave birth to her, and how life has drastically changed. She's my drama queen, my outspoken, stubborn, argumentative, cheeky, emotional, giggling, bunch of quirkiness all wrapped up into one little body. I can't even imagine what life would be without her. She sure gives us the spontaneity and unusualness that ordinarily wouldn't be apart of our life.
My girlies are back from their weekend away .. J's back in the land of the living, and all seems to be right with the world. Alissa always seems to have some sort of melt down upon returning home. Whether it's because she had difficulties taking orders from certain people, or sometimes she's over tired and in huge need of going to bed early .. which seemed the case today. She came home, went upstairs and disappeared into her bedroom. I thought she had our cat, so left her alone until I discovered he was under the table in his 'the girls are home' stance, then I went up to check on her. I opened her bedroom door and she was sobbing. Awwww. :( She wouldn't tell me why for the longest time, but finally she sputtered out that she's just so tired. And as I type this, both girls are outside enjoying the last bit of the warm sunny evening before having to come in. She's fine now .. but clearly depends on the routine I've given her here at home, and needs the early bedtimes even if it's a weekend night.
And for the record .. both girls are in the middle of a growth spurt. Hailey grew 3/4 of an inch since April and Alissa grew 1/2. I've noticed Hailey's slimming out quite abit, and when I made mention of it tonight, she said she knows .. she's had to cinch her belt in a notch. Hello puberty!! lol
I've been in need of a new cell phone for about a month, when my old one started playing games on me. I brought it into the telus store to find out why I was losing memory, and having a warning message come up everytime I texted, yet I had deleted all texts and photos stored in it, and it was warning me I was steadily using up the memory. The tech said it was the phone .. nothing he could do about it and because I had it for over a year, I was pretty much SOL.
So starts the journey to finding me the right phone for me.
I got this cutie last night and I'm soooooo thrilled with it. With the keyboard, it makes texting so much easier, tho I'm still rather slow at it, unlike regular typing. But I got all my contacts put in, played around, read the little manual, and have been in touch with a few friends to practice. It has a very cool camera (pretty good for on a cell phone, I do admit), can play music (I won't use that feature tho .. I love my iPod to much .. which is also pink, remember?), can play games, cool ringtones, but I do need to find me some more. I simply love it!!!!
Oh and can I just say that it being pink is almost the best part!!
So the saga of my life continues with none other then more stresses. What's new right? And I wouldn't be me if I didn't vent a little of it here, so if you're not interested .. skip ahead. :P
So I had a meeting to deal with some matters that came to light a few months ago, and it's long and a detailed story that I won't bore you all with, but it is stressful none the less. And at work, my hours have been dwindling, and it frustrates me to see this happen to not only myself, but some others too .. and then also see new people being hired. It makes no sense, and as much as I enjoy my job and most of the people, that just doesn't pay the bills. Not that things are nearly as tight as they were before I landed this job, and that in itself does give me abit of breathing space to look around for something else. I'm not sure what I'll find that will be as flexible with the hours as my current job is, but it's worth a try. Anyway .. I know this makes no sense, and I know I haven't been as forthcoming with life as I usually am, but I tend to clam up when the going gets tough, and only talk to those select few close people.
My girls birthdays are fast approaching. Alissa's is in FIVE days, and Hailey's in FIFTEEN! I have NOTHING figured out for their birthdays. We were going to do an overnight birthday party, but trying to find weekends when they're with me, and then nothing else already planned is pretty much null. So no sleepovers, but we'll figure something out anyway. As for gift ideas, I'm sorta stumped. Alissa's needs to be addressed first since hers is around the corner and because she's such a fashion diva I thought maybe I'd find something along those lines. Either a fashion game, or go crazy with some new scarves (she LOVES wearing scarves .. not the winter kinda scarf either) or little quirky accessories, etc. I need to think about this all still yet. Hailey's the little book worm, so maybe a new book series or something on how to write her own stories more effectively .. I dunno! Ideas?
Actually, it's not really child labour when the child wants to do it. She came up with the idea on her own, and it kept her busy and out of my hair for over an hour! She doesn't do the greatest job, but I'm not that terribly picky when it comes to the exterior of my vehicle. Anything is cleaner then it was. And yes, that's Hailey inside the car. She wouldn't get out until after I had taken the photo. Little brat!

I was going to type up a post describing my weekend, but I'm not feeling so great so sitting here in front of the computer is kinda the last thing I want to do. Actually, no .. the last thing I want to do is the dinner dishes .. but I can't skip that. :P What's with this sick stuff. First last week it was my throat, then suddenly this afternoon my stomach started cramping up and I barely made it through the end of my shift. I went over what I ate today wondering what it could be .. and hoping it's not the asaigio/artichoke dip I had on a pita for lunch. I love that stuff!!
I will say one thing tho. Boo too the FIFA for airing on CBC on Sunday mornings for the next 3 weeks. I'm going to have to either catch Corrie every evening from 6:30-7pm, or watch it online, and miss my Sunday morning ritual. :(
I often wonder what makes me who I am. How being born at a certain time of day or time of year lends its impressions on how ones personality can be, how we act or react, etc. I came across this little write up when doing abit of searching on my own signs and thought alot of it rung true with what I know about my own self. I went ahead and bolded some words that totally describe me to a tee. If you know me well I'm sure you could agree. :P
Those with planets in Air signs lead with the head, and those wheels are always turning to analyze and interpret their world. These are the "idea people," who breeze in and offer a fresh perspective on the situation at hand. As observers, they're often seeing from a loftier position, and able to offer clarity that others don't have. The air signs are social creatures, since their currency is ideas, and they'll find more stimulation when out mingling. Some are drawn to words and become professional communicators, while others -- especially Aquarius -- have a more conceptual way of thinking. Air signs are masters at navigating through the collective waters, and therefore are astute commentators of the cultural trends, attitudes, consciousness of the times. When Air is out of balance, you can encounter a talking head, someone cut off from his own physical self. Air signs are more vulnerable to the excesses of our mind-body split, and could benefit from yoga and other somatic practices. A meditation practice helps Air signs calm the static. In relationships, the distance of Air to their emotions can be refreshing. They're great conversationalists because they're the keepers of so much knowledge, gossip, strange factoids, etc. Talking with an inspired Air sign can be like skipping through a kind of virtual reality full of detail, specificity and local color. Those with planets in air signs use their minds to make sense of their lives. With Air, there's more space between the life lived and the observing mind. This can lead air signs to appear detached, aloof, remote, cool. Sometimes they'll try to talk their way through feelings or analyze a situation instead of encountering it's full emotional weight. The gift of Air is flexibility, and their ability to experience life through many prisms. They're often excellent communicators, storytellers, interpreters and journalists. They link people together socially, and often have a curiousity that keeps them out and about.
I'm itching big time to carry a new, spring handbag. I have one cut out that I can sew up, but I'm not really in the mood for sewing this weekend, but it's time to retire my black leather one for something more spring like and fun. I've been feasting my eyes here and dreaming. At least they're reasonably priced and on a major sale to boot .. so it could be more of a not-so-distant reality then a dream. I know, I have a problem! :P
So here's the tell-tale proof we had fun at the SATC2 premiere. I wish I had taken more photos, but it was a pain in the ass to keep taking my camera out .. seriously. I'd like to invest in a smaller, more purse friendly one eventually, but I digress. We had such fun!! If I ever get copies of the photos others took, I'll share them for sure.

This weeks been abit messed up with me not feeling 100% in more ways then one. My throat had been killing me, and because a friend of mine has strep and it's going around with a few others I know as well, and because I happened to see a white spot on the one side of my throat (which I never get), I chose to sit at the walk in clinic last night for an hour and a half only to see the doc for a whole of two minutes .. get swabbed .. and told its most likely not strep so go home and gargle with salt water and hope for the best. It made for no time with the girls, a late quickly eat kinda dinner, and then to bed early. And on top of it all .. I haven't been sleeping great. Falling asleep and waking up anywheres between an hour to four or five hours later and laying there for HOURS before being able to fall back to sleep. Last night I slept an hour and was awake again until 1:30. Oy! So bring on the weekend .. I could use a morning for sleeping in! :P
