I had a MUCH better day yesterday, tho still a long day, it was bearable because of the compliments and I finally got my name tag! :) I'm not even 'in training' .. how's that for progress in the last three weeks?!

Today totally rocks because .. well, because it's Friday that's why. And I have two whole wonderful days to look forward to, with only myself to take care of. And .. today is my first payday. I haven't set up the automatic deposits with work yet, so I'll be getting an actual cheque, a cheque with my name on it, paying me for hard worked hours. It won't be what my regular full sized cheques will be from now on, because I did six hour days that first week, but still it's money! yay me!!

This weekends movie lineup is the Defendor and Leap Year. I'll let you know how both of them turn out in a movie review post.

I'm taking a wee break to blog while I listen to the dryer tumble a load dry, and the girls playing on the Wii. I had a milk explosion at work today and between that and the horrid smell of donuts (it's only horrid when you're home in your nice smelling, clean, out of the kitchen, trying to breath clean air that donut/coffee smells aren't found appealing) it's time to get some downy into that uniform. Mmm, downy! Have I told you about my love affair with downy yet? No??!! Oh, well that's a whole other post, I'm afraid.

Okay well dishes are calling. No rest for the wicked, apparently.

work related again .. don't read if you're bored with all of that

There's this lady I work with that paid me such a sweet compliment today. She works the 2-10pm shift so we work two hours together .. usually me on the till and her as my runner (pouring coffees and making drinks). Today she was having a rough start to her day. She had a splitting headache, which set her off her game a little and slowed her down, made her question some of the orders she had already prepared, etc. I was trying to step in and help her out as much as I could along with doing my own job, just to make it a little easier for her. During a short lull, she told me she really liked working two hours with me. She thinks I'm chipper, easy going and work as a team. She asked me if anything phases me because we had just dealt with a customer that was a young twenties guy that ordered three different kinds of donuts, but after paying, insisted he had ordered and paid for four. I printed off and showed him the receipt, but couldn't prove he hadn't ordered four, just hadn't paid for four. He finally did pay for the fourth, but threw me the money. Jerk, but how it's all about customer service right? And that was just ONE mess around today. Why do people try to get more for less? Like ordering a bagel with cream cheese, then down at the sandwich counter claiming they ordered it with bacon. I'll admit if I'm wrong or if I didn't hear something right and apologize to the customer, but I refuse to when I know they're just trying to get a freebie.
It was discussed after this particular bacon incident, and apparently this sort of thing happens alot .. especially during a busy breakfast or lunch rush. They figure they can sneak it in and get it given to them because we're all to busy to really care.
I'll tuck that a way for the future when I'm a paying customer. :P
Anyway .. I ranted all of that just to share that compliment. It made me feel so good at the end of a very long and very busy day!

mundane monday

It's a new fresh week and a chance to fill it with the best things possible. That's the attitude I'm trying to keep as I sit here with my cup of coffee, NOT wanting to go shower and get dressed because that means I have to drop the girls off and head to work.

The girls have the day off school as a pro-d day .. yes, ANOTHER one! I'm not sure what is with these teachers here in BC. They like to take a day a month, which makes it a pain in the ass for us parents. This coming September it looks like the school my girls attend will be joining the same time schedule as most of the other schools in the district and going from M-F 8:45-2:30 instead of 9-3 and 1:30 on Fridays. Their reasoning is so that children involved in after school extra curricular activities can get there on time with all the other schools. I can see how that makes sense, but for me it's good because really .. why get early dismissal on Fridays. Its nice for the kids to have a longer afternoon of play at home, but it'll work out alot easier on me and other working parents when they aren't out so early.

I'll try to remember to take another update photo of my neighbours 'project garden'. It's expanded into something that looks like its straight from a country setting. You'll see.

sunday rants

Today I needed to get groceries for the upcoming week, as well as a much needed stop in at Walmart for some cleaning and household things that had been depleted. They seem to always all need replenishing at the same time, which just makes my theory of dropping no less then $50 at Walmart impossible and so very true. While there I picked up a few food items that are generally cheaper there then the grocery store (milk, cream, fibre 1's) and then we headed over to get groceries.
I'm not one to really let a pork tenderloin grace our table, but after having tasted one last month, and then having the apple butter marinated one from M&M's recommended to me, I popped into M&M's to pick one up. I love when what I'm after is on sale even! And that's whats for dinner.

Alissa and I are back home now .. back to our Twilight obsessed other cohabitant. I swear to god she's going to drive me crazy with all this talk, quoting and now she's found songs redone to include Twilight talk. Oy!
I think my respect for Kanye West has diminished severely! Sorry Kanye, but you shouldn't have crossed that line!

As for the movies J and I watched over the weekend .. well let me spare you the agony. The Backup Plan was pretty good aside from misleading information that has to do with having babies, but then I'm not a doctor so what do I know. And Bad Lieutenant .. BAD news is what my review will tell you. I always try to hold out hope that Nicholas Cage will enlighten me with decent acting but nope, once again he sucks!
So long story short, watch the Backup Plan, don't waste your time on Bad Lieutenant.

I probably shouldn't say this because I tend to have a problem with giving anything I say a kiss of death, or jinxing it .. but the last two nights I've been able to fall asleep and except for saying goodbye to my man, stay asleep all night. This makes me very happy because being awake when the rest of the world is fast asleep, being tired but laying there quietly in the dark hoping like crazy your body will drift off just plain sucks!
Today is also FRIDAY! YAY!!! Two full days of NOTHING ahead of the girls and I, and to start it all off, I get a double header movie weekend with J. We're watching The Backup Plan and Bad Lieutenant. And if it doesn't rain tomorrow, the girls and I are meeting my friend and her kids at a recently renovated playground to let the kids explore the new equipment while we chat and catch up. I love weekends!!!

midweek!

Could it really be Wednesday already. Yay! I got a call from my manager at 8:15 this morning, calling to see if I could come in today. WTH?! I've gone over with him about three times, what my shifts are that he agreed to. So upon leaving work this afternoon, I asked again .. Mon-Fri, 9-4 and yep, he nodded and said that's perfect. Okay then, write it down somewhere so as not to forget. I'm still not able to punch in and out on the time clock either. Apparently somethings wrong with the two or three codes he's given me so in the meantime I'm keeping track at home and they're doing the same there. Other then a couple other minor things like me not having my second uniform or even a name tag, things are good there. I like it alot! Having only worked up in the front for a week, I'm getting to know the regulars, some more friendly then others. There's a few of us newbies so we're 'comforting' eachother. lol
It's also difficult when there's a really busy few hours and we run out of things, or things weren't ordered and the delivery truck doesn't have them. It makes for taking orders rather interesting, but most people are pretty okay with switching up their favourites for something different. Try being out of turkey, 6" whole wheat buns, lettuce, tomatoes, mustard, and iced tea all at the same time. Oy!

I came home to my girls already in pajamas because they had a sports day today at school and apparently were so hot, nighties felt like the right attire to be in. And they made themselves what they called yogurt smoothies. It looked good, but smelled too strange for me to taste upon their request. I passed on that offer.

Time to go make dinner now, but thought I'd sit with my coffee and give my feet a break for a minute.

oh my!

Today was my first 7 hour shift and from now on in that's what it'll be. The girls amazed me with having the chores I listed for them, done as well as when I got home they were sitting on a blanket in the living room with a tea party set up, snack and all. Now how awesome and mature of them is that?! I'm so proud they're adjusting so well with me going back to work .. although this after school stuff is still new to them .. hopefully they'll be able to keep it up. It sure made it alot easier on me! :)
Now it's time for dishes, and making lunches for tomorrow and then I can sit with my feet up. I've had my quota of coffee for the day so I may top the evening off with a glass of red instead.

I have two whole days to soak in the quietness! Of course I can't be a lazy bum all weekend long, but there are definitely moments I'm going to veg and enjoy for sure. Along with laundry, cleaning and grocery shopping .. but I got a good start on some of that yesterday afternoon so it's under control. It's raining here today, so that makes it very easy for me to stay indoors without the spring outside calling out to me to come photograph it.

I really don't have much to say, but I know my number one fan/reader doesn't like paying me a visit without there being some content to read. :P
I'll be on the phone with him a good amount this weekend too, so he gets the 'news' firsthand anyway. :) (I love you J!)

another day ..

another day, another dollar .. a drink instead, but not the usual. Remember that root beer commercial from way back in ohhh probably the late 80's or early 90's?
I had my second day on the floor .. it went well, pretty fast, got my two breaks this time, learned more, met more people, and it was alot of fun. A little stressful because two people from headoffice were in and everyone was minding their p's and q's which put me even more on edge. But I'm the newbie, I'm expected to screw up. :P

I'm finding alot of people drink their coffee's with TOO much sugar. Oy! One customer had 6 sugar, 4 cream in an x-large! Coffee with that sugar, Sir? :P

Other then very sore feet, I'm actually really loving my job. It's so much different then what I was ever used to, but I like the change. Don't get me wrong, this is NOT a finish line for me, but it's a challenging yet exciting stepping stone. And if I tend to vent a little, please don't take it as me complaining. I'm just expressing myself. :)

Oh and also, I do promise I will blog about more things then just work .. it just happens to be on the front burners of my lifes' stove right now.

anti-bullying day

Today was national anti-bullying day, so to show our support we wored pink shirts. The girls wore theirs all day, mine I wore until I went to work, and then again afterwards.
I hope that this brings enough awareness that children do not have to suffer in silence or be at the recieving end of bullying.

day two

I'm bagged! How can sitting in front of a computer for six hours nonstop make one so very tired? I don't know, but I am! I didn't even finish all the training info, but don't have to. Hah! Tomorrow I get my uniform and start training right out on the line. Woohoo! The day's likely to go by much faster that way. I did enjoy the back today tho. I had some good conversations (when I didn't need to pay fully attention to some videos) with a couple staff members. One was here still from Toronto, training the icecream staff. I made mention of the nice weather they had the other week and he asked me how I knew. I told him because my boyfriend lives there and suddenly we had alot to talk about. LOL
It's nice that the atmosphere at work is fun, light and entertaining .. and I have to say, the best flavours of icecream are the peanut butter, cotton candy, and coffee. OMG! I got ALOT of tasters! :)

Now I'm off to supervise homework, make dinner, make tomorrows lunches and try to turn in early again.

first day

Today was my first day at my new job. The first couple days are just watching cds on the computer, watching video clips and then answering questions pertaining to those clips. I also had to watch how certain drinks were made, and then remember it and build them but with a little game on the computer. It was hard but I had been pre-warned by not only the supervisor but others coming in and out of the room. I did it tho, eventually and kept plugging along. There were so many distractions, but hey, that's the name of that particular business so I should get used to it right? So far from those I've met, they seem like a fun bunch of people. I was even paid a compliment, that it's nice to see someone joining that has a sense of humour and he thinks I'll fit in quite well.

My ass hurts and my eyes ache from sitting on a hard chair almost nonstop in front of a computer all day! :P

I love lOve LOVE tulips! They are my all time favourite flower and when I see them blooming in the spring .. ahhh, there really just isn't anything quite like it. I finally got down to the SEAwall to photograph spring. Spring in the shape of my beautiful tulips.

And spring in the shape of two girlies balancing, dipping their hands into the ever so cold water to take a closer look at the starfish, small crabs and other sealife that have been trapped in the ladders after high tide.

It was a nice sunny day, but the wind was chilling to the bone as it usually is in the early or late months of the year when anywhere near the open waters.

I took many more pictures .. maybe I'll collage them for another share later on.

Tomorrow marks the first day of my new employment. After 11 years (to the month .. not quite the day tho) of not recieving the normal pay cheque for work done .. I am now an employed woman!!!

dreaming of bags

I was catching up on blogs this morning and came across this. Oh. My. Heavens! I'm in love!!! I love bags, I even love making bags, I love giraffes and I would LOVE this hand bag so much!!! I think when I can treat myself .. it may just have to be with this. That or maybe Santa will see how challenging my year has been and spoil me. :)

I am currently an employed person! :)
So it's not an office job where I can dress up and look pretty. So it's not doing what I had always thought I'd be doing, in an industry I thought I was qualified for .. but you know what? None of that really matters at the present time. Right now I'm so stoked I'll be taking care of me and my own. How much more of an ego boost can one person get? :)

My neighbour, who is also a major green thumb, has decided this year she's planting a garden. Not terribly out of the ordinary, right? It kinda is when it's planted in our complexes 'common area'. I guess no booting down the strip of grass with a soccer ball in full play, or playing bocce ball, or umm .. who am I kidding. I don't get out there anymore to do any of those things anyway .. and I'm sure the girls will stay away from it, but I know for certain the cats won't! :P
We'll be moving sometime before fall anyway so no worries.

They also put a gate in the fence, and are in the process of making a cozy little riverside sanctuary (see the table and two chairs?). Kinda cute, and would be nice on a hot summer evening.
You can see the neighbours boyfriend down there trimming back tree branches, etc. For now, with all the rain we've had, the garden does resemble a mud pit. Anyone want to come over and wrestle? lol

Actually, I'm to sick. :(
Tonight I plan on taking some night time contact c in hopes of getting a better rest.

I'm feeling yucky. After a few days of suffering from a sore throat, and hoping to fight off the full fledged cold by gargling with tea tree oil and water, I think it's set in now. :(
My sinuses feel full, I'm sneezing, and my eye lids feel heavy. I hope this isn't a doosy of a cold, because honestly, this is NOT the time to be sick. I'm far more appealing to potential employers if I'm not all nasally, snotty, and coughing don't you think?

I'm sorry .. for the above reason, I won't be able to come up with anything witty to post today. *sigh*
Who am I kidding. I'm rarely witty, charming or interesting. :P

Here are my girlies, after arriving home, searching thru their easter baskets, having a bath and dressing in one of their new tops. And nope, they haven't had enough sugar to make them crazy just yet. But then again they're always crazy .. so the difference is hard to notice. :P We're anxiously awaiting turkey and all the fixings. Mmm

Today is Easter .. and so far I've been able to veg the morning away. I woke up WAY to early, tried going back to sleep and then finally at '6am' decided to put the TV on. After a little while I realized that my alarm clock was wrong. You see, it has the DLS built into it, but when they changed when that occurs a few years ago, it made my clock wrong and every single time (fall and spring) it surprises me by doing it. I should know by now, but it continues to slip my mind. This meant it was only 5am and I was awake WAY to early still .. like WAY! Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to sleep in abit .. I doubt it tho.

Todays plans are that my girlies will return just after lunch, Eva and her friend are coming over shortly after, we'll get the turkey in the oven and hopefully play some board or card games, then finish prepping and cooking dinner.
The girls don't believe in the easter bunny, so giving them a basket each of some chocolates, various eastery candy and some clothing is what I do.

friends

I just had three friends over, but they left me early! :(
It's probably for the best because then I can get a decent nights sleep and still wake at my normal time for Corrie in the morning.

We yapped, had wine, yummy snacks and now abit tipsy, I'm blogging. Oops.
But I have good news that I MUST share. I did a follow up call on some places I had applied at a couple weeks ago and as it goes, the one place asked me to come back and fill out another application. If I made it within the hour, I could meet up with the manager before he left, and well hey, that's always a good thing. So I went down, met the manager, filled out another app, handed it over to him and he did a quick glance over it and set up an interview with me. How's that for charming! :)
Now lets hope I get a job out of that!
I swear this town is full of unadvertised opportunities. And it's the one that goes the extra mile that gets the attention, so I'm learning anyway.

april fools

I have to admit, I'm really not good at pulling pranks on anyone, and never have anything original or believable to do, so I choose to pass on it all.
My girls do love to try outsmarting their friends tho, and the past few days there's been talk of all sorts of ideas that would work. Hailey came up with one for Alissa that only half worked. As it ends up, neither of us can keep a straight face when lying. And that is actually a great thing!! :P

I have a sole weekend coming up, one where I plan on spending time with friends, my photography, doing a little cooking, late nights, watching obscene amounts of downloaded movies or TV series, and relaxing. I made a promise to sleep in as many mornings as I can make myself, and I guess I'm also flying solo on my Corrie and coffee morning too. I have a surge of spring cleaning feeling coming on and maybe I'll get to sorting through the girls toys .. that would certainly help when it comes time to pack up this place.
