I admit, I'm not one to bring home many treasures when out thrift shopping partly because I just don't see why I need a cutesy teapot or that antique wall hanging when I just don't have room for things I'm not going to completely use. I love garage saleing, and almost always come home with books, toys, clothes or little bits I can use in scrapbooking (ribbons and lace, buttons or old jewellery, etc) and find when I visit second hand stores, it's mainly for the children's clothing because I've had great success in finding nice things for a decent price. I say decent, but from the thrift stores I've heard about in the USA, ours would be WAY overpriced. But a few pennies saved is what makes me happy.
So to get to the point of my post. I had been talking to my Mom recently, about how the socks she knitted the girls several years ago, have been LONG ago outgrown and if she were ever to find her hands not so busy and needed a project, the girls would welcome a new pair each. These socks are the only thing that keep the girls feet warm during our brief and infrequent Island snowfalls, but are so nice to have 'just in case'. When I was a child, my Mom taught me and my sisters, how to crochet and knit. I must have liked crocheting better, because I've done so many neat projects .. but never did catch on to the whole casting on (I believe that's the term for starting the first row of stitches?) So, my conclusion, after the phone call, was to perhaps teach myself how to knit again, and make socks for my own girls (in time). I found this really neat book how to teach yourself to knit (and crochet), found some suitable needles, and some gorgeous yarn. I can't wait to show you what I make .. tho I've already decided I'll use some easier to work with fiber to begin with.
