afternoon outing

Yesterday afternoon I took the girls for an icecream, and afterwards we explored the nearby train cars that are there as museum pieces.  These other items were there as well, and you'd never know it, but right after climbing to the top of the rocks, the heavens let loose and it poured gigantic raindrops so we had to leave.  But it was a nice little outing while it lasted!

neglectful

I've been a bad bad blogger (or journalist I suppose the case may be since I only have the ten of you reading). What's been keeping me busy? Nothing specific, just lots of little things, but it's good to have those kinds of days.
Yesterday afternoon we met my friend Darla, and her kidlets for a hot few hours of fun in the water park. There was a small film crew there taking footage for some 2010 promo advertisement in which they'd like to promote visiting Nanaimo as part of the whole experience. Darla got to the park first and signed an agreement, but the lady never did come around to me for my permission. I highly doubt our kids will be in the advert anyway because the selected one particular boy to say a one-liner as water gushed down ontop of his head. Talk about chinese torture, but the kid was a trooper .. probably because he's going to have his 1.8 seconds of fame?

Tomorrow's humpday! woohoo! And that's all I have in me to talk about today.
Bubye people! *said in her most seductive voice* ;)

day outing .. just us girls

Yesterday, the girls and I met up with my friend Kristine and her girls, for a walk and picnic at one of the cities finest parks. It's gorgeous, rocky, has a fantastic view, and gives you the feeling you've left town for a few brief hours. We so enjoyed ourselves, climbing and playing. I walked out the door with flipflops on, and didn't realize until we'd arrived. Ooops! But I proved you can still hike and climb in flipflops. Coming down is the dangerous part. Eeep!
The wind was a little crazy out of hand, but the smells of the sea water that it brought in with it was amazing. There really is nothing like those salty smells.

Today I'm wearing a smile! It's funny what gestures of love can make me smile .. like a couple texts from my man. :)

lesson learned!

This is my dear sweet and stubborn 8 yr old's back. At first sight, you may think I'm a neglectful Mom, heartless and horrible .. but let me explain why this happened.

We spent the afternoon at a nearby park, yesterday. Upon getting there and the girls stripping down to their bathing suits, I called them over to apply sunscreen. Alissa came running, and once I was finished with her .. I called Hailey. She looked at me, stuck her tongue out (a habit I MUST rid her of!), and told me she didn't need sunscreen. I ran the speech of why we put it on and what will happen, but at this point she was already quite aways from me. Quite honestly .. I would have tried again with her later, or some of you may think I should have dragged her butt back to me and applied it anyway .. or just left the park .. but she's 8, and I'm trying to give her a little leeway .. trying to show her what her consequences will be if she chooses the wrong thing .. but I forgot about it and it wasn't until we were leaving (3 hours later) that I realized she was getting quite red. You know how a burn doesn't quite show up until you're out of the sun? Well wow, did it ever! I told her I wasn't going to have pity on her, because she chose this, but I did secretly feel SO bad, and found a little home remedy online to sooth her burn. It took awhile for her to fall asleep last night, but she did sleep the night through (still is sawing logs). She's promised to listen to me next time .. tho we've chalked it up to a lesson learned. Mommy's are ALWAYS right!
